CHAPCA's monthly e-newsletter provides up-to-date news on what's happening in hospice and palliative care around the state and in the nation.

Technical Assistance

CHAPCA staff and leaders help provider members thrive in a highly competitive environment through a variety of services. Experienced staff and colleagues are available to support members with difficult issues such as Medicare reimbursement, staffing mandates, preparation for accreditation reviews, starting a hospice program and more. In addition, CHAPCA's regulatory and marketing publications such as the Side by Side Regulatory Comparison are invaluable tools for every administrator and manager.

Patient Referrals

Provider members of CHAPCA are included in the searchable database list on CHAPCA’s website. Patient referrals to CHAPCA member organizations are also given by staff to the thousands of people who contact CHAPCA’s toll free helpline each year to find a hospice care provider in their area. The helpline number is (888) 252-1010.


Membership means savings on advertising in CHAPCA newsletters, discounts on educational conferences and workshops, and cost savings on all CHAPCA printed materials.

Our workshops cover a wide variety of issues, such as compliance and reimbursement, clinical, psychosocial, bereavement, volunteer and administrative topics, and are offered in a variety of formats.

Most programs offer continuing education credit toward your professional license renewal.

CHAPCA monitors legislative and regulatory activities, and sponsors new legislation to improve hospice and palliative care services.


Direct representation of hospice interests with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Department of Health Services, the Department of Social Services, Medi-Cal and fiscal intermediaries.

Regulatory Affairs

CHAPCA closely monitors federal and state activity on hospice and palliative care issues, including CMS, OIG, MedPAC, DPHC, DSS, OSHPD and other federal and state agencies, analyzes their impact on providers and communicates on a regular basis with providers about changes.

Activities include monitoring survey implementation of the COPs, addressing Medi-Cal payment processes with the California Department of Health Care Services, keeping the membership up to date on NGS billing issues, working with DHCS Managed Care Services on behalf of providers having authorization, documentation and payment problems with various managed care plans, and working with OSHPD to identify areas on ALIRTS with poor data input as well as areas where charts are needed to add data collection items and/or clarify instructions.

Working in conjunction with the California Assisted Living Association, CHAPCA has advocated for clarity, consistency, and common sense in regulations guiding hospice services in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly.

Choose Your Membership Type

Provider Members

Corporate agencies or individual companies that provide hospice care, including hospice in-patient facilities, are eligible to be Provider members of CHAPCA.

Provider member dues are based on the actual operating expenditures for hospice care during the previous fiscal year for that single office. Providers with multiple offices or branches should calculate dues for each individual office location. Corporate discounts are available to agencies with four or more locations/offices in their network.

Providers are encouraged to register each office so they can be included in CHAPCA's on-line membership directory and in referrals from our office. In addition, every employee of a member provider office is considered a CHAPCA member for purposes of registration for educational programs, receiving newsletters, and other services provided by CHAPCA. Palliative Care Members

Individuals, hospitals, medical groups or hospices that provide palliative care consultations are eligible to be Palliative Care members of CHAPCA.

Palliative Care membership dues are based on the number of palliative care consultations provided during the previous calendar year.


Professional (Individual) Members

Any individual may join CHAPCA as a member.


Associate Members

Any individual or company who provides a product or service to the hospice industry, i.e., pharmaceutical company, software vendor, funeral home or service, medical equipment provider, industry consultant, etc. may join as an associate member.

Hospice care providers are not eligible to be associate members.
